We wanted to create a race that would showcase Dartmoor in all of its glory. Two routes 50km and 50 miles inspired by the ancient ‘Dartmoor Perambulation’ and designed to take runners on a journey through some of the wildest and most spectacular parts of the moor.
Dartmoor certainly delivered.
On Saturday morning, with the rain hammering down, the recent heatwave seemed like a distant memory. But despite what lay ahead, the runners gathered at the start line in Princetown full of smiles, good humour and more than a little nervous anticipation.
What followed was pretty special.
For hour after hour we watched people battle their way around a challenging route in brutal conditions. Despite the rain and aching muscles, runner after runner carried on still smiling, still moving and still determined to finish.
Some incredibly fast times were posted, while others were out there deep into the night. Every single person who crossed that finish line had earned it while those that didn’t make it all the way round gave it everything they had. We loved every minute of it.
Of course, something like this doesn't happen without an enormous number of people giving their time and expertise - a huge thank you again to every single one of you that played their part big or small.
But most of all, thank you to the runners, brave, determined, cheerful and just the right amount of crazy. You made the first Manumit Dartmoor 50 everything we hoped it would be.
We loved our inaugural event, and we've already got plenty of ideas for making the next one even better.
Which brings us to...
The Manumit Dartmoor 50 is coming back in 2027.
Entries are now officially open.
If watching this year's runners has given you the itch to find out what you're capable of, we'd love to see you on the start line.
