THE MANUMIT PRIZE FOR BRITISH & IRISH ADVENTURES

A celebration of wild exploration

£1,000 Cash Prize

From first-time day hikes to once-in-a-lifetime expeditions, we’re celebrating self-planned adventures across Britain and Ireland.

What Is it?

The Manumit Prize for British & Irish Adventures is open to anyone who sought a challenge, and found a sense of freedom in the pursuit of adventure.

Whether it was by land, sea, river or air (or all of the above!)  we want to hear about it.

It’s completely free to enter. Either submit an entry for yourself or nominate a friend/family member.

This is not about elites or organised events. It's about people who choose to go anyway.

Does Your Adventure Qualify?

Whether you're an outdoors novice or a seasoned expedition leader, if your journey mattered to you, we want to hear about it.

Any adventure, big or small, that took you off the beaten path qualifies, as long as it meets the criteria listed below .

This is not about who went furthest or fastest. It's about meaning, effort, and intent.

Self-Planned

The adventure itself must have been planned and organised by you (and your team if relevant), not a race or event facilitated or arranged by an external organisation (if you bought an event ticket to your adventure it doesn’t count!)

Self-planned doesn't mean solo. You may submit a team adventure or have had help from friends, volunteers, or a support crew.

Self-Funded

You may have received some sponsorship to help fund the adventure, but it should not have been motivated by commercial reward.

Location Specific

Qualifying adventures must have taken place in Britain, Ireland, or their surrounding waters.

Time-Scale & Format

Qualifiying adventures may have taken place in a single push or across multiple days, weeks, months or even years.

In short, your adventure can, but does not have to be, a single, continuous journey or event.

How do I enter?

Fill out the entry form below that includes the following questions, each with a 500 word limit:

Challenge

Describe the adventure in your own words. What did it take physically, mentally, and logistically to plan and complete your adventure?

Inspiration

What sparked the idea? Why this challenge, and why now?

Impact

What lasting effect did the adventure have on you, others, or the environment?

How Will entries be judged?

Team Manumit will select a shortlist based on the Challenge, the Inspiration, and the Impact. The winner will be decided by a combination of public votes and expert judges.

FAQs

Do I need to be a professional adventurer?

No. This prize is open to all experience levels. Whether you're an outdoors novice who took the leap and went on your first day hike, or a seasoned expedition leader who took on an epic, months-long odyssey, we want to hear your story.

Can I submit more than one adventure?

Yes! But each submission will be viewed as a stand alone adventure. Multiple submissions will not be treated as a 'portfolio' to be judged as a whole.

Can groups apply?

Yes, teams can apply, please make the group element of the adventure clear in your submission.

What if my adventure feels "too small"?

There's no such thing as "too small." We're looking for meaning, effort, and intent not distance or duration. If your adventure mattered to you and pushed you beyond the familiar, we want to hear about it.

Can I submit anonymously?

A big part of our motivation for creating this prize is for the purpose of using these stories to inspire others to follow in your footsteps. As such we would like all entrants to be prepared to have their names attached to the prize in the event they win!

What are the key dates?

  • Submissions are open now!
  • Applications close: 1st November 2026
  • The winner will be announced in January 2027

The Manumit Adventure Prize is a love letter to getting outdoors and discovering all that nature has to offer.

We can’t wait to celebrate and share your adventures with the Manumit community!
