MANUMIT DARTMOOR 50

50 mile and 50 km Circular Trail Ultras Following the Boundary of the Ancient Dartmoor Forest
29.08.2026

Follow in the footsteps of  “twelve true knights” who, commanded by King George III, completed the first recorded perambulation of the Dartmoor Forest bounds and in doing so, established one of Britain's oldest long-distance routes.

Inspired by this historic journey through one of Britain's last remaining wildernesses, and in partnership with the Dartmoor Outdoor Festival and Dartmoor Search & Rescue, Manumit is excited to announce our first ultra marathon open to anyone who feels the call of the wild.

EARLY BIRD PRICES FOR FIRST 50 ENTRANTS!

Where is it?

The routes both begin and end in Princetown, the highest village in Dartmoor National Park.

Your journey will take you through its landscape of high moorland tors, forests, rivers and valleys scattered with Bronze Age stone circles, Neolithic tombs and ancient ruins.

What is it?

Two routes to choose from. 50 miles or 50 kilometers.

Both trail routes that combine runnable moorland, rugged beauty and proper adventure.

This isn’t flat and fast, it’s wild, demanding and unforgettable.

When is it?

Saturday 29th August 2026

What’s included?

Multiple aid stations at key points along the route (up to 4), staffed by Dartmoor Search and Rescue Teams including Remote Rescue Medical Technicians. Water and snacks will be provided at aid stations.

GPS trackers for every participant.

A detailed GPX file of the route to aid navigation.

Course photography to capture your adventure!

Finisher medals for all entrants and Manumit prizes for our winners!

EARLY BIRD PRICES FOR FIRST 50 ENTRANTS!

50 mile route map

THE ROUTE

Distance & Ascent

50 miles/80km with 7,300ft/2,250m of total ascent.

Or

32 miles/50km with 5175ft/1577m of total ascent

The 50 mile route closely follows the historic boundary of the ancient Dartmoor Forest.

The 50km route deviates from the 50 miler in the North and South sections.

Both link tors, river crossings and open moor, designed to be runnable while remaining wild, exposed and challenging.

The courses will not be waymarked on the ground. Participants are responsible for following the route provided and must carry the official GPX file on a suitable device.

Digital checkpoints along the route will help ensure the full course is completed without shortcuts!

This GPX (50 km) and This GPX (50 miles) are indicative and subject to change.

Our team of ultra running ambassadors is currently refining the line to make sure it's the best Dartmoor experience possible. Final GPX and physical checkpoint locations will be confirmed once we’ve completed this work alongside Dartmoor Search and Rescue.

Prices

For the first ever Manumit Dartmoor 50 (what we like to call The Pioneers Edition!) places are strictly limited to 150 people only! That is the total number across both distances.

By purchasing your ticket, alongside supporting Dartmoor Search and Rescue, £2.00 goes directly to Donate for Dartmoor to help maintain Dartmoor’s network of footpaths and bridleways and to support conservation projects on the moor.

Lower fees for the trailblazers who sign-up quickly!

First 50 tickets: 50km £65 | 50miles £75

Second batch of 50 tickets: 50km £85 | 50miles £95

Last 50 tickets: 50km £95 | 50miles £105

Safety & medical

While we always expect events of this nature to pass without incident Dartmoor remains one of the most challenging environments in the region, with tough terrain and potentially unpredictable and fast changing weather conditions.

For that reason we have partnered with Dartmoor Search & Rescue to provide the safest conditions possible for your adventure!

Dartmoor Search and Rescue is uniquely equipped to operate in this environment, with extensive experience in remote rescue, advanced medical response, and navigation in austere terrain.

Multiple checkpoints (up to four)  along the routes will be manned by both a Remote Rescue Medical Technician (Advanced First Aid) and more traditionally trained search and rescue members. Water and snacks will be available to all participants at these points.

Depending on the weather we may have additional water stops along the routes.

Race HQ contact numbers will be provided in the final race instructions. Phones should be used sparingly to conserve battery for emergencies.

Our event team and Dartmoor Search and Rescue will respond as quickly as possible to any incident, but participants must recognise that the terrain is remote and response times may be affected by weather and access.

Live GPS tracking will be provided, with updates roughly every few minutes (subject to signal).

In a serious medical emergency, call the emergency services first (999), then contact Race HQ.

Entry requirements

This is unlikely to be your first ultra, the distance and the terrain are a significant challenge. Although it is taking place in summer, the weather is never guaranteed especially up on the moors.

To take part in the Manumit Dartmoor 50 you should:

  • Be at least 20 years old on race day
  • Be in good general health and capable of sustained effort in remote terrain
  • Be capable of completing the 50 mile distance in 18 hours and the 50km in 12 hours
  • Have successfully completed at least one organised event of marathon distance or longer before race day
  • Have experience of trail running or fell running in remote areas

By entering you confirm that you meet these criteria and accept the risks involved in taking part in a long-distance event on exposed moorland.

After withdrawing, it is your responsibility to arrange transport home or back to the finish to collect any belongings. Where vehicle space and staffing allow, our event team may be able to transport you from a checkpoint to Race HQ, but this cannot be guaranteed and may involve a significant wait.

The race director reserves the right to withdraw any participant from the event on safety or medical grounds.

GPX

This GPX (KM) and this GPX (Miles) are close approximations of the route but key sections including several river crossings are currently being re-routed to improve run-ability. The finalised route will be available here and emailed to all entrants as soon as it is available!
